The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives building happens to be the first edifice in the Western Region Secretariat and right from the very first time that the building was constructed, it has been a centre of activities and up till now, it also remains a nexus to the economic development/enhancement of Oyo State.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives started as the Ministry of Local Development in 1953. This was on page 112 of the Western Region of Nigeria gazette No. 35 vol. 2 of 17 September 1953. The Ministry has contributed to the growth of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the State.

The Ministry has previously been named as Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives, Ministry of Trade, Investment and Cooperatives and presently Ministry of Trade, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives. The present status of the Ministry is in line with the law of Oyo State Government, assented to by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Oyo State on 30th July 2015.
